Homeopathy is an approach favored by those who want more humane, more natural and more sustainable therapy. Backed by 200 years of study and clinical observations, homeopathic medicines, also known as homeopathic remedies, are effective and considered among the safest natural health products.
Founded over 200 years ago by a German physician named Samuel Hahnemann, homeopathy is now used by more than 200 million patients around the world.
According to the most recent report from the World Health Organization on the progress of traditional and complementary medicine, homeopathy is used by the population of 100 out of 133 member states.
Homeopathic medicines are made from substances of plant, mineral or animal origin. They are prepared according to a specific manufacturing process, by dilution and succussion, completely codified, documented and standardized, which ensures the quality, reproducibility and absence of toxicity of the homeopathic medicine.
Properly prepared homeopathic medicines have little risk of interaction with conventional medicines and are unlikely to cause side effects.
They can generally be used by everyone and are often a safe choice to favor especially in people at greater risk, for example young babies, pregnant women or people on multiple drugs. If in doubt, please consult your health care practitioner before using any homeopathic medicine.
In 2018, 4.9 million Canadians used homeopathy for alternative treatment, with a satisfaction rate of 77%.
In Canada, homeopathic medicines are regulated by Health Canada under the Natural Health Products Regulations (NHPR). Homeopathic medicines approved by Health Canada have a DIN-HM number.
